April row quilt row

I've been working on my row quilt for the guild.  I decided to just make all the rows now and then add them on the quilt each month as needed.  So, here is April's row

And here it is on the quilt

Picking the colors has been the most time consuming and then I got this idea to repeat the color combinations from the first 3 rows in the last 3 rows.  So far so good and it made the process so much faster!  I'll be working on the last row today and then I need to think about finishing it out.

Happy Friday everyone!

Working on PHD

It's been a busy couple weeks.  My son, Luke, and his family came down for a visit and we did a bunch of fun things around San Antonio....riverboat ride, the Alamo, sea world, the boys went golfing while the girls went outlet shopping and babysitting the grandsons a couple nights so their parents could go out on dates.  It was a fun and fast visit!

So now I'm back on my PHDs...projects half done.  I have so many things in various stages of production that I'm determined this year to get some done and moved along.  My first project was this
I started this about 8-9 years ago as a project at retreat.  I loved the lacy look and thought it was fun.  Was happily sewing along on it when one of our guilds experts came by and said something about it looking like a bunch of table toppers and why would I want to make a quilt out of table toppers.  Ow..deflatation and a good lesson about only saying nice things about things people choose to make. I had the top half done and when I got home it got put away...until this year.

My guild makes charity quilt and this year we are making things for children...giving quilts to the children's hospital, and the shelters.  I got to thinking about this project...not juvenile but cute enough to give a little love and care to someone hurting.  So my project turned into this
I'm going to give them to our charity chair tomorrow and soon 4 little people will have a quilted hug.
So, one PHD done, too many more to do...back to sewing world 😀.

My new sewing room

When Aaron moved out last summer Joe and I decided to remodel our upstairs.  We figured with an empty room we could shuffle furniture around and work on the project as we had time.  So we began by turning the boys' room into my sewing kingdom.  Wish I had before pics, but I don't

We took the popcorn off the ceiling, pulled the carpet, painted, put shelves in the closet, laid laminate,  new baseboards, crown, new door hardware.  Joe built the cabinet for my tubs.  I love my room!

Welcome!

I love this wardrobe. When I was a girl my dad hung his shirt on one side and kept his socks and stuff in the drawers on the other side.  Good memories.  Now it's full of projects.

Time to go sit in the chair...until next time!

Baby quilt

Been working on a quilt for my newest great nephew.  I did a twister using 5" blocks and a 3" outer border.  Here's step 1:

After a little slicing and dicing here is the result:

I cut a 3 1/2" outer border and quilted around the twists...good practice for free motion straight lines.     It is bound and ready to mail.

My grandson did this for a school project..would love to see if it comes true but if he's 100 I'd be,hmm, probably not here.  Happy 100 birthday Kaleb!

Quilt guild row quilt

My friends, Denice and Janet, and I (aka Las Tres Amigas) decided to run a row quilt challenge for our guild this year.  Last year Moda fabrics had a blog hop and we are using some of their patterns because they did each block in multiple sizes.  I'm doing the 6" blocks, Denice the 12" and Janet the 18" and sometimes the 3" blocks.  We are all using different numbers of blocks in our rows and are coming up with different setting ideas.  Today I found a piece of fabric in my stash that will make a great breaker row...really happy with the look.  I'll try to get pics of the others to post...we started the challenge in January so I just finished row 3 to present at guild next week.

Welcome to our world

A new great nephew came into our lives today.  My brother's son, Jim and his wife, Natalie welcomed Liam into their lives this morning.  Welcome to the crazy adventure of parenthood!  And now the James Perry line has an heir.  One day I hope to get a picture of the four James Perrys.

Celtic solstice done!

All borders on, backing all pieced and waiting to be quilted...hurray!  2014 stash buster mystery done.

My baby's 30

Sometime between yesterday and today, the nanosecond before the stroke of midnight, my leap year day baby turned 30... Where has the time gone?!  Aaron and Joe went golfing at north cliff and then we had lunch at Biff Buzby's. We can home and had Baskin Robbins chocolate chip ice cream cake.

There is one problem with just three people....one person is the birthday person and sitting by the cake, one person brings the cake in and the third person looks like this:

Happy birthday Aaron

The guys liked the cake
